Onboarding new team members with checklists
ToDoBot allows you to create workflows that can be used in different situations. One of the examples - they can be used for creating onboarding checklists. They are especially helpful when there is a new employee, who enters the team. This will help you onboard the new team member and make sure that everyone is on the same page. It is useful both for the new team member and for the employer, as it is possible to track the onboarding process at all the stages.
To create an onboarding checklist, you can use the Template feature. For that you will need to create a Template and add the tasks you would like to assign to the new team member.
To add new ToDos into the template use the New Item button.
Then add all the remaining items.
When you finish adding items into the template, go to Slack Workflow Builder.
Then click the Create button to create a new workflow.
After that you will need to name your workflow.
For the onboarding checklist it’s best to use the “New channel member” category.
After that you need to choose the channel, after joining which the workflow will start. If you want to create a checklist for a new employee of the company, it is best to choose a channel that is always joined by all members of the team, for example, General.
To start building the workflow, press the Add Step button.
After that add the workflow steps you need.
To add a step you need to choose one of the categories and fill in the form in the next window. Here you can add a welcome message.
To create a message, you need to write the text of the message and to specify to whom it would be sent. It is also possible to use variables, so that the bot will be able to use the name of the person it is sending the message to.
After that add the Template with ToDos you want the bot to assign to the new team member.
When you finish adding the workflow steps, press the Publish button.
After a new user joins the General channel, Slackbot sends them a welcoming message and assigns the tasks via ToDoBot.
It is also possible to create checklists for onboarding on a specific project. To do this you can also create a Template and add the tasks you need into it.
After that create a “New channel member” Workflow. Here you need to choose the channel of your project.
After you finish adding the workflow steps, press the Publish button.
After a new user joins the channel of the project, Slackbot sends them a welcoming message and assigns the tasks you have added via ToDoBot.
